... makes the perfect occasion to go to Karakoy!
You may have heard that there are many touristy things around Karakoy, such as getting to the top of the Galata Tower. However, not many people will tell you, unless you deliberately search for it, that you should go to Istanbul Modern during this time.
Every Thursday, from 10 am to 2 pm, the museum offers free admission to the residents of Turkey - frankly, I do not think they inquire anything, because they were just handing the tickets when I walked in.
The museum is a short walk after breakfast at Namlı Delicatessen, or in French "Pasaj" for a stack of pancakes if that's your calling.
One of the highlights of our visit was the immersive experience created by Refik Anadol, most notably in the Infinity Room.
Another standout was the photography exhibit by Ozan Sağdıç. This exhibit was particularly touching, as the culmination of his 70-year career captured the stark contrasts between 20th-century Turkey and the present day. It also featured portraits of many eminent figures who have contributed a great deal to Turkish music, cinema, and politics.
Once you've finished touring, you can head over to Galata Port, which is right next door, for a shopping spree. Complete your day with a visit to Gulluoglu for some delectable baklava before catching the ferry back.
